Mary Bolin, Brevard County Commissioner since 2006, currently serves as Chairman of the County Commission and is the Board Appointee to the Space Florida Legislative Committee. Space issues are a high priority for Mary and as a spokesperson for Brevard County government she takes the lead in meeting with elected officials on both the State and National levels. Additionally she serves on the Executive Committee for the Economic Development Commission and East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, is an active member of the Transportation Planning Organization, Florida Association of Counties and the Space Coast League of Cities.
When Mary ran for the Office of Commissioner, she stated that roads and responsible fiscal government were her priorities. True to her word, she moved the Pineda realignment and extension to I-95 “off of paper”. One road is now completed and the other under construction. It took a strong hand to make it happen. Mary’s leadership was the catalyst to that action.
Over the last three years, Mary reduced the county budget by $140 million, while championing fiscal responsibility and less government. She also led the move to establish a “Local Preference Resolution” in support of Brevard County businesses, and supported a moratorium on transportation impact fees. Additionally, she corralled business leaders within the county to assist in the establishment of an Efficiency Commission that has been a useful accountability tool for County management.
Mary is very active in the community as past Chairperson of the Brevard Long-Term Recovery Coalition, past member American Red Cross Brevard Chapter, past Advisory Committee Member of University of Central Florida Family & Consumer Sciences, current member of Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors, and the Honor America Board of Directors.
Commissioner Bolin has been a Satellite Beach resident for the past 19 years and was married to the late Bob Bolin for 26 years. She has five step children, nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
She is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Education.
