EmilyRyan was born in 1996 in Walden, NY. At age five, her family moved to Westbrookville, NY, and it was there that her mother began homeschooling her. Emily considers this to be her parents’ greatest gift to her. ”Being home-schooled has given me the ability to think differently than other kids my age, and to be more independent in my studying skills” said Emily Ryan.

Although Emily has struggled with a mild form of dyslexia, she has been able to maintain solid A’s and B’s. She is currently enrolled in Calvary Christian School which is a program that meets once a week to give home-schooled kids extracurricular activities such as gym, foreign languages, and the arts. Emily is a part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Teen Leadership and Career Development Program. She has been given the opportunity to teach a children’s Sunday school class.

Emily participated in a Red Cross program for babysitting which included certification in the Heimlich maneuver and mouth to mouth resuscitation. Her goal once she finishes high school is to go to Patrick Henry University in Virginia with a major in political science. Her dream is to one day be a senator for New York State.
